Our Photography

The use of portraiture puts a human face on our university. We want to show UMass Lowell students, faculty and staff in the best light, which means capturing them with authenticity.

Candid photography depicts the UMass Lowell work ethic both inside and outside the classroom. Active photographs document the experiences of students and faculty and are an expression of the university as a hub of learning, connection and innovation.

If you need professional photography, please contact Marketing and Communications and we’ll assist you with booking a qualified photographer who can meet your needs.

Tips for taking Cellphone Photos

If you need to shoot photos for social media, to update your web pages or at an event, you can capture images with your phone. Here are some suggestions for getting the shot you want:

  • Clean the lens before taking pictures.
  • For optimal lighting, have the subject face toward the light. Avoid harsh shadows.
  • Make sure the background is clear of clutter and other unwanted items.
  • Focus your shot by tapping the image of the subject on the camera screen.
  • Hold the camera steady with two hands.
  • Fill the frame. Get closer if needed.
